Nareto Latia Indigenous People's Programme is a community based organization founded with a premise of community togetherness in advocating for the fundamental rights of the most marginalized and underserved members of the society who are mostly women and girls. The foundation building blocks of Nareto are the individual community women living their daily experiences of hardship, marginalization and violence came up with a solution to end the same cycles. Our programs are right based and are mostly anchored on the legal empowerment. We are women led and we are members of different women networks all over the county which not only makes it easy to implement programmes, but which also ensures community ownership and sustainability of our interventions.

VISION

We envision a world without poverty in which women are empowered, uplifted as equal partners in society. Women live in safe, sustainable environments that include adequate food, water, housing, education, right to own land and health care. They possess the tools to provide a better life for themselves and their families and they have the hope, opportunity and ability to control their lives.

MISSION

Our mission is to empower indigenous women and girls with tools to work their way out of poverty, care for their families, and strengthen their communities.

Programs

Education

NLIPP’s education interventions aim to break the cycle of disempowerment and poverty within Maasai society by providing children, with education access and support. We believe that when children are educated, they are able to diminish harmful practices towards women.

Health

Health programs help empower individuals and communities to live healthier lives by improving their physical, mental, emotional and social health. Our programs are tailor-made to address communities’ health challenges.

Livelihood Economic Empowerment

The Maasai community is very patriarchal, with minimal opportunities for women to challenge circumstances such as lack of property ownership (including land and livestock), high mortality rates, low levels of education, forced marriages or influence community decisions.

Governance and Policy Development

Indigenous peoples are often severely affected by large scale infrastructure projects, internal displacement, environmental toxicity and pollution caused by extractive industries, abrogation of their treaty rights, and grabbing of their lands.
